FORREST CITY, AR – A Memphis man was arrested in Forrest City Saturday as a result of an undercover investigation by the First Judicial District Drug Task Force after he attempted to meet what he believed was a 14 year old child for sex after he encouraged her to prostitute herself so he could acquire a “modeling fee”.
Scott Kaufman, 58, of Memphis, originally from New York City, used his social media account to correspond with what he believed was a 14 year old female.
Kaufman told the purported child that he was “rich” and had multiple businesses in Memphis including an escort service. Kaufman messaged the purported 14 year old child that she could make an enormous amount of money modeling for him, even underage.
Saturday night, Kaufman arrived at the Forrest City Walmart to meet the child.
Kaufman has been charged by the First Judicial Drug Task Force with Promoting Prostitution in the First Degree, 5-70-104, a Class D Felony and Internet Stalking of a Child, 5-27-306, a Class B Felony. Kaufman is currently facing charges stemming from an incident last month in Shelby County, TN for allegedly threatening to kill a clerk at the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office claiming he was in the “mafia”. His bond has been set at $75,000 cash. He is currently in St. Francis County Jail and will appear at 1pm today in St. Francis County District Court before the Honorable Judge Mike Smith.
