JONESBORO, Ark. – In an effort to curb violence in the City of Jonesboro the Police Department will be having a Gun Take Back Event later this month. Officers will be on hand to take in guns with no questions asked. Individuals turning in guns will receive a $50 gift card to local businesses in exchange for every gun traded in to police.
Following the events of the shooting at The Basement on Main St. in May, the Jonesboro Police Department was approached by a concerned citizen with a proposal to partner with community advocates and sponsor an event to help remove firearms from Jonesboro. The goal of this event is to reduce violence in the City.
“We hope to give people the opportunity to surrender unwanted firearms there by reducing the chance of those firearms falling in to the wrong hands,” a press release said.
Trade in locations will be as follows:
September 21st, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at Allen Park Community Center, which is located at 3609 Race St.
September 22nd, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Parker Park Community Center, which is located at 1506 N. Church St.
September 23rd, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at The Jonesboro City Pool, which is located at 1421 W. Nettleton Ave.
