JONESBORO, Ark. – Don’t drink and drive. The message is simple but the effort is complex and in Jonesboro this weekend, checkpoints will push that simple safety message.
As part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign, Jonesboro Police will conduct sobriety checkpoints in various locations in Jonesboro this Friday, August 25th and Saturday, August 26th. To aid in the efficient operation of the checkpoints, Black River Technical College Law Enforcement Training Academy personnel will assist by providing their BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) Mobile.
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), an average of 10,000 people are killed each year in the United States because of impaired driving. JPD participates in NHTSA’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign to bring awareness about the issue of impaired driving in our community and to deter such behavior to make the streets of Jonesboro safer.
More information about the campaign can be found at http://www.nhtsa.gov/drivesober/.
