JONESBORO, Ark. – Prescription medications and crystal meth were found by a police officer in the bedroom of a man who died late Thursday.

Just before 11 p.m. Thursday, June 8, Officer Matthew McDaniel with JPD was dispatched to the 3400-block of Sun Avenue to a residence where a man was discovered unresponsive by another who was staying with him. Odell Whiteside, 57, of Jonesboro, was found lying in his bed on his back. He was found with a white, frothy substance around his mouth and on the pillow.

Several prescription medications were found on his nightstand next to the bed. While the coroner and officer searched for ID, a glass pipe was found with suspected methamphetamine residue inside on the dresser at the foot of the deceased man’s bed.

“It appeared he was diabetic, had high blood pressure, and cholesterol issues,” McDaniel reported. “I was also advised that he used methamphetamine very often.”

A witness had tried to get the 57-year-old to go to the hospital earlier in the day but told the officer the man had refused.
