Suspects arrested with stolen gun; marijuana in crotch

JONESBORO, Ark. – Two men were arrested following a traffic stop early Saturday morning, with one of the men allegedly picking an interesting place to hide his drugs.

It began just after 1 a.m. Saturday morning, when Jonesboro Police Officer Bryan Bailey was on patrol eastbound on Latourette Drive. A 2004 Ford Taurus crossed the double yellow line multiple times, following a turn, according to Bailey, so he began a traffic stop. But as soon as he began to speak with the suspects, he knew the situation was suspicious.

“I asked for the insurance and registration and while searching for the paperwork, (the driver) had heavy breathing and both hands were shaking which led me to believe he was nervous about something,” Bailey reported.

Bailey asked the driver if anything illegal was in the vehicle. “Not that I know of,” was the response, the report says. Bailey began a search, including frisking the driver.

That’s where things got interesting.

“While searching Randle’s groin area, I felt a round item in his crotch area that was consistent with the feel of marijuana,” Bailey said. “As I grabbed the bag, Randle stated, ‘That’s my balls,’ and I advised him that it was not and to pull the marijuana out of his pants.”

On command, the driver pulled out a small cellophane bag of marijuana.

During a search of the vehicle, a stolen gun was also found. The 9mm SCCY handgun was lying covered by a newspaper. The gun was found to be stolen out of Mississippi County.

The driver, Lamerell C Randle, 18, of Jonesboro, was arrested for possession of marijuana and theft by receiving. The passenger, Patrick De-Shun Weaver, 18, also of Jonesboro, was arrested for theft by receiving. Waiving his right to counsel, Weaver claimed he was only in the vehicle for a ride to his girlfriend’s house.
