Jonesboro to honor, remember on anniversary of 9/11

Press Release – City of Jonesboro

Jonesboro — AmeriCorps VISTA members will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by joining volunteers across the country in the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Local VISTA members along with the Jonesboro Police Department and Jonesboro Fire Department will commemorate the event by visiting Familie Tiez, a local after-school program. Police officers and firemen will read to the students. Also, students will have the opportunity to tour the fire trucks and police vehicles.

In 2009, Congress designated Sept. 11 as a national day of service through the Kennedy Serve America Act and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) with leading the annual event. CNCS partners with 9/11 Day, the nonprofit that began the 9/11 Day observance more than a decade ago, and hundreds of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, schools, and businesses nationwide.
