Pocahontas Marching Redskins honoring first responders Friday

POCAHONTAS, Ark. – This weekend marks the 15th anniversary of the terrorism of September 11, 2001 and a group at Pocahontas wants first responders to know – you’re appreciated.

The Pocahontas Marching Redskins will honor first responders during halftime of the football game on Friday night, September 9. The band will perform a portion of its patriotic program.  Prior to the final song, an announcement will be made inviting first responder guests to come to the track in front of the home stands.

The band will play “America the Beautiful” while students present guests with notes of gratitude. The community will recognize the contributions of these dedicated people, all the while.

The group is inviting all first responders (police, fire, emt, etc.) to attend. Anyone who has been a first responder at a time of crisis is invited. Go to PocahontasBand.org to pre-register, so an appropriate count can be made for the event.

The band’s website says to be at the east gate of Schoonover stadium at Pocahontas High School by 7:30 p.m. Friday. Hosts will assist you in getting organized.  Preference is that you wear your uniform, if possible, but it is not a requirement to participate.

All uniformed first responders, or those with appropriate ID, will be admitted to the game for free.
