Man charged in deadly Corning shooting

CORNING, Ark. — (Updated) One man shot and killed another man Sunday afternoon in Corning, according to a KAIT report.

Brian Curtis will be charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of James Prater, KAIT reported Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington as saying.

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller said the shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. at the 800 block of 6th Street.

Authorities believe Bryan Curtis shot and killed James Edward Prater III but they did not know what motive may have inspired the act.

Miller believed the two men barely knew one another.

Curtis is being held in the Clay County Detention Center with formal charges pending.

The case is being investigated by Corning police, Clay County Sheriff’s Department and Arkansas State Police.
