Paragould Male Accused of Kicking in Door, Beating Victim Who Needed Facial Surgery

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man faces a Class Y felony after police said he kicked in the door of an occupied residence and attacked a person who was later taken to Memphis for reconstructive facial surgery.

Zachary Huffman faces the following charges:

• Aggravated residential burglary, a Class Y felony
• Second-degree battery, a Class D felony
• First-degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor

The allegations stem from an incident reported July 26, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene County District Court.

An individual told police that Huffman kicked in the door of the alleged victim’s residence and battered the victim. Following the alleged attack, the victim was taken to a trauma center in Memphis, where reconstructive facial surgery was required.

Officers went to the victim’s home and reported finding evidence of forced entry, spots of blood inside and outside the residence and a heavily damaged interior door.

While police were at the scene, Huffman contacted a relative of the victim and allegedly admitted finding the residence, knocking without receiving an answer, kicking in the door and striking the victim multiple times.

Detective Aaron D. Gamber wrote that officers interviewed Huffman under Miranda the following day. During that interview, Huffman allegedly admitted entering the victim’s home and hitting the victim.

A judge found probable cause July 27 and set Huffman’s bond at $500,000 surety.

If released, Huffman must wear an ankle monitor, possess no weapons and have no contact with the victim, witnesses or anyone else involved in the case. He was also ordered to live a law-abiding life.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
