HARRISBURG, Ark. — A 4-year-old child was injured after an accidental firearm discharge inside a Harrisburg home Saturday, according to Harrisburg Police Chief Michael Turner.
Authorities believe the child was struck by a fragment of a bullet after the round ricocheted off a concrete surface inside the residence. Turner said the incident remains under investigation, and it could be that a fragment of concrete was what struck the child.
The child suffered a non-life-threatening injury, the police chief said. Emergency responders transported the child to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis for treatment.
Turner said investigators believe the injury resulted from an accidental discharge of a firearm. The exact circumstances surrounding how the gun discharged have not been released.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
