PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould suspect was arrested after police said he fled officers in a stolen vehicle at speeds exceeding 110 mph before crashing in Dunklin County.

Mason C. Markum, 22, of Paragould, was arrested on allegations of felony fleeing and theft of property, as well as misdemeanor theft and reckless driving. Bail was set at $250,000 cash or surety with an ankle monitor.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched April 19, 2026, to check the area around a business in the 1300 block of West Kingshighway. Police were told Markum was attempting to use a stolen debit card and might be inside a vehicle that had been reported stolen to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office earlier that morning.

The victim told officers a transaction did not go through because she locked the card, but Markum was allegedly able to get $40 before the card was locked, the affidavit said.

Officers did not find the vehicle at that time, according to the affidavit.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle around 22nd Avenue in Paragould, but the vehicle fled from officers, the affidavit said. Police pursued the vehicle eastbound on East Kingshighway, where speeds exceeded 110 mph.

According to the affidavit, the pursuit continued into Dunklin County, where the vehicle eventually crashed. Officers then took Markum into custody after a short foot chase following the wreck.
