Jonesboro Suspect Accused of Failing to Return Rental Car Arrested on Felony Theft Charge

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro suspect was arrested on a felony charge alleging he failed to return a rented vehicle after a rental agreement ended earlier this month.

Thomas Isaac Adams, 22, was arrested for theft of leased or rented property, a Class C felony. Bail was set at $100,000 cash or surety by Judge Tommy Fowler, with a GPS ankle monitor required.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers with the Jonesboro Police Department took a report on March 12 from Hertz alleging Adams failed to return a rented 2025 Toyota Camry after the rental agreement ended on March 10.

The affidavit states Hertz contacted Adams on March 16 and was told the vehicle had not been returned and that Adams had lied about leaving it at the airport in Memphis. The affidavit says Adams later told Hertz he left the vehicle at the Hertz rental lot at the Memphis airport and placed the keys in a drop box.

However, Hertz contacted the airport location and was told the vehicle was not there, and there was no key drop box, according to the affidavit.

Police reported on March 18 that the vehicle had still not been returned. The affidavit lists the estimated value of the vehicle at $23,000.

According to the affidavit, Houston police arrested Adams on March 20 while he was in the 2025 Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen. The affidavit states Adams had an active warrant from Craighead County for theft of the vehicle at the time of his arrest.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
