JONESBORO, Ark. — A 19-year-old was arrested after police say he was caught shoplifting ammunition from Academy Sports and later found with drugs and cash.
Officers responded at about 1 p.m. on March 17, 2026, to the 2800 block of Parkwood Drive in reference to a shoplifter who was still on scene at the business.
According to the affidavit, Officer Crosby was told the suspect, identified as Dezmonterriez Khaleil Milton, 19, had been convicted by staff to return merchandise and was in a now in the back office. The affidavit states Crosby then made contact with Academy Sports employees, who said Milton had concealed several fishing items prior to transporting them. Officer Crosby took Milton into custody and, while searching him, reportedly found $1,200 in cash in Milton’s front right pocket.
Police then located Milton’s vehicle in the parking lot and conducted a probation search, according to the affidavit. Officers reported finding about 24 grams of suspected marijuana inside a backpack that also contained Milton’s driver’s license, as well as 10 Percocet tablets.
Milton was arrested on charges of possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance not methamphetamine or cocaine, a Class D felony, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and theft.
Judge David Boling set bail at $5,000 cash or surety. Milton’s next court date is scheduled for April 23, 2026.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
