PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Greene County suspect was arrested Saturday after investigators say a 7-month-old child suffered injuries consistent with abuse, according to an affidavit.
Detectives with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department were contacted on March 14, 2026, by the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division regarding a domestic violence incident. Authorities made contact with the alleged victim at St. Bernards Medical Center.
According to the affidavit, the child’s mother reported noticing bruising around the infant’s eye earlier in the day and questioned the suspect, identified as Layton Davis, 37. Davis initially told her the baby had fallen off the bed, authorities said.
As time passed, the bruising reportedly worsened. The mother later told investigators that Davis admitted he grabbed the infant’s face and head and squeezed, causing the injuries.
Investigators documented injuries to the child’s head and beneath the left eye.
Davis was arrested by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and charged with second-degree domestic battering, a Class C felony.
Judge Curtis Hitt set bond at $250,000 cash or surety and issued a no-contact order, according to the affidavit.
The investigation remains ongoing.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
