UPDATE: Harrisburg Shooting Leaves Man in Critical Condition, Suspect Arrested

HARRISBURG, Ark. — Authorities have identified and charged a suspect in connection with a shooting that left a Harrisburg man critically injured and a dog dead, according to an update from the Harrisburg Police Department.

The incident began at approximately 10:03 a.m. on March 13, 2026, when the Poinsett County 911 Center received a call reporting that a man had been shot in Harrisburg.

Poinsett County deputies and Harrisburg police officers responded to the scene and located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began administering first aid until medical personnel arrived.

The victim, identified as Paul Wallin, was later airlifted to a Memphis hospital and remains in critical condition.

Police said officers also found a dog suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene. The dog underwent surgery but later died from its injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, officers identified Mitchell Eaton as the suspect. Authorities took Eaton into custody a short time later at a residence in Harrisburg without incident.

On March 16, 2026, Eaton appeared before Circuit Judge Ellington on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree battery and aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat or equine.

Judge Ellington set Eaton’s bond at $250,000 cash or surety and ordered that he be placed on an ankle monitor if released.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

In a statement, Harrisburg Police Chief Michael Turner thanked witnesses who provided information during the investigation.

“I want to personally thank the witnesses who came forward and provided valuable information to our officers,” Turner said. “Your willingness to speak up helped us quickly identify the suspect and bring this situation under control.”

Turner also thanked the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the investigation.

The case remains under investigation, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
