Inmate Accused of Attacking Jailers After Noose Incident at Clay County Detention Center

CORNING, Ark. — An inmate already sentenced to prison is facing additional felony charges after authorities say he attacked detention officers during an incident at the Clay County Detention Center.

According to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, jail staff observed inmate Ronald Kaden Endress, 21, of Campbell, Missouri, at approximately 7:27 p.m. on March 8, 2026, with a torn piece of blanket fashioned into a noose around his neck.

When a jailer attempted to remove the noose, Endress allegedly attacked the officer, charging and striking the jailer multiple times in the head and body, authorities said.

During the altercation, Endress managed to exit his cell and enter the lockdown hallway of the jail but reportedly refused orders to return. A second jailer arrived to assist, and both officers forced Endress back into his cell.

Officials said the suspect attacked the officers again while they attempted to remove items from the cell.

A deputy who was at the detention center responded and assisted in restraining Endress. Authorities said he was placed in a restraint chair until he was no longer considered a threat to himself or others.

Endress had already been sentenced to the Arkansas Department of Correction on a conviction for first-degree terroristic threatening.

Following the incident, he now faces additional charges including second-degree battery for attempting to injure a police or detention officer, first-degree terroristic threatening, intentional injury to or interference with government property, first-degree criminal mischief involving property valued at $1,000 or less, and impairing the operation of a vital public facility.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
