Attempted Break-In at Ex-Girlfriend’s Home Leads to Stalking, Burglary Charges, $500,000 Bond

JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect was arrested after police say he attempted to break into an ex-girlfriend’s apartment and repeatedly harassed her, according to an affidavit.

Nortoris Dequan Davis, 20, was arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit aggravated residential burglary, a Class A felony, and first-degree stalking, a Class B felony.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers responded March 5, 2026, to a residence on Giffin Street for a reported residential burglary in progress. Officers made contact with the alleged victim, who told police her ex-boyfriend, identified as Davis, had attempted to kick in her door.

Officers observed damage to the lower portion of the door and said the door jam appeared loose, consistent with an attempt to force entry. The alleged victim told officers she heard Davis telling her to open the door while indicating he knew she was inside.

The alleged victim said Davis had been consistently trying to get her attention and had called her more than 20 times the night before. Police later observed Davis hiding near a trash can outside the residence a few hours earlier when officers first arrived, according to the affidavit.

The alleged victim told officers she believed Davis had been tracking her movements whenever she left her home and had even forced her to live in fear for her safety. Dispatch records showed the victim’s phone number had called police 13 times since December 2025 regarding incidents involving Davis.

Police said those calls included reports of Davis coming to her residence, following her to a motel where she attempted to stay away from him, and assaulting her. A misdemeanor assault report had been filed within 12 hours of this dispatch, reflecting what police described as an escalation in Davis’ threatening behavior.

While reviewing Davis’ criminal history, officers noted he had prior convictions including first-degree terroristic threatening and possession of a stolen firearm after receiving a firearm in 2024, according to the affidavit.

Special Judge Barbara Halsey set Davis’ bail at $500,000 cash or surety and issued a no-contact order. His next court date is scheduled for April 23.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
