CRITTENDEN COUNTY, Ark. — A Tennessee man remains jailed more than a month after a multi-agency pursuit ended when Arkansas State Police performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention on a pickup truck exiting Interstate 55.
According to an Arkansas State Police incident report, Trooper Thomas was notified at approximately 8:55 p.m. Jan. 10, 2026, that the Tennessee Highway Patrol was actively pursuing a Chevrolet pickup northbound on Interstate 55. THP advised the vehicle’s license plate was returning to a Chevrolet Avalanche.
The pickup exited at Exit 4 and merged onto Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, where an Arkansas State Police unit was positioned at the base of the ramp and assumed primary pursuit. Troopers activated emergency lights and sirens and attempted to make contact with the driver, who failed to stop.
The vehicle turned west onto Broadway, where a first attempted Tactical Vehicle Intervention, or TVI, was unsuccessful. A second TVI was attempted at Broadway and OK Street but also failed to disable the vehicle. The driver continued north on OK Street through a residential neighborhood before merging onto a service road running parallel to Interstate 55 southbound.
Troopers performed a third TVI maneuver, which caused the pickup to leave the service road and come to rest on the Interstate 55 southbound and MLK exit.
The driver exited the vehicle and lay face down on the ground. Officers took him into custody without further incident. Authorities identified the driver as Terry Grant of Memphis, Tennessee.
Police later determined the vehicle was a Chevrolet Silverado displaying a fictitious license plate that returned to a Chevrolet Avalanche. After running the vehicle identification number, authorities confirmed the truck was a Silverado bearing a different license plate number and expired registration from 2021.
Property damage from the incident included a wrong-way sign owned by the Arkansas Department of Transportation, estimated at $300. The Silverado sustained an estimated $4,000 in damage, including damage to the driver-side door, front bumper, rear passenger-side panel, rear bumper and rear driver-side panel.
Grant was charged with felony fleeing, driving with a suspended license, no insurance, fictitious tags and expired registration. His bail was set at $250,000.
As of Feb. 13, 2026, Grant remains in the Crittenden County Jail.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
At approximately 8:55 pm, I, Trooper Thomas, was notified by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) that they were actively pursuing a Chevrolet pickup truck. THP advised that the vehicle’s license plate was returning to a Chevrolet Avalanche. THP was following the vehicle northbound on Interstate 55 and advised that they were passing Riverside Drive. The Chevrolet pickup took Exit 4 and merged onto MLK. I was stationary at the base of the MLK exit ramp. As the pickup merged onto MLK, I assumed primary in the pursuit.
I activated my emergency lights and siren and attempted to make contact with the driver from the driver’s side. After observing that the driver was failing to stop, I began positioning my patrol vehicle to perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI).
The pickup turned west onto Broadway. After the turn, I attempted to position my vehicle for a TVI. The pickup then began to break and swerve as I was attempting to position my patrol unit. I attempted a driver-side TVI, which was unsuccessful. The vehicle continued eastbound on Broadway.
A second TVI was attempted at the intersection of Broadway and OK Street, which was also unsuccessful. The pickup began heading northbound on OK Street through a residential neighborhood. I continued the pursuit along with two THP units.
The pickup then merged onto the service road running parallel to Interstate 55 southbound. I performed a third TVI, which caused the pickup to leave the service road and come to rest on the Interstate 55 southbound / MLK exit.
The driver exited the vehicle and began to lie face down on the ground. Officers took the driver into custody without further incident. The driver was identified as Terry Grant, who was found to have a revoked Tennessee driver’s license.
It was later determined that the vehicle was a Chevrolet Silverado; the Silverado had a fictitious license plate, and the license plate was returned to a Chevy Avalanche. After running the VIN on the vehicle, it returned as a Chevy Silverado with a license plate (4SJ628). The Silverado had expired registration from 2021.
