Brookland Suspect Accused of Activating, Cashing Stolen Lottery Tickets

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Brookland suspect is facing felony charges after authorities say he activated and cashed stolen lottery tickets, resulting in thousands of dollars in losses to a local store.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on Feb. 5, 2026, Detective B. Butler obtained an arrest warrant for Jeffrey Allen Renfroe, 54, from Judge Tommy Fowler.

The affidavit states that on Dec. 1, 2025, around 12:30 p.m., a Jonesboro police officer responded to the Maverik convenience store at 3418 East Johnson Avenue in reference to a theft. Store employees reported that books of lottery tickets were missing during an inventory check. The store manager determined the tickets had been activated but were not present in the store and had not been sold.

Store management reviewed surveillance footage from the dates the tickets were missing and identified Renfroe as the individual who allegedly activated the lottery tickets. Detective Butler also reviewed video that allegedly showed Renfroe scanning the tickets to activate them and placing them into a plastic bag before leaving the store.

Authorities later confirmed through the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery that winning tickets from the stolen books had been cashed at various local convenience stores, according to the affidavit. The total reported loss to the store was $2,700.

Renfroe is charged with theft of property greater than $1,000 and lottery fraud, both Class D felonies. His next court date is April 23. Bail was set at $2,700 cash.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
