Contractor Arrested on Multiple Felony Theft Counts After Clay County Investigation

CORNING, Ark. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a Corning contractor following an investigation into multiple complaints alleging customers paid for work and materials that were never provided.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the investigation began Jan. 20, 2026, after numerous individuals reported similar experiences involving 36-year-old Brandon Wolner. Investigators said complainants alleged Wolner accepted payment to perform contractor work but failed to complete any services. Others reported giving him money to purchase materials that were never delivered.

After taking statements from multiple individuals, deputies met Monday, Feb. 9, with Mike Trail to review each complaint. Officials said the cases were evaluated to determine which matters were civil disputes and which met the threshold for criminal charges.

Following that meeting, the Sheriff’s Department sought and obtained an arrest warrant charging Wolner with five felony counts of theft. Deputies arrested Wolner later that night in Corning. He was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked.

The Sheriff’s Department said the investigation remains open and deputies are continuing to take statements. Anyone who believes they may have been affected by a situation involving Wolner is asked to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Department at 870-598-2270 to speak with a deputy.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
