VIDEO: Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Chase on I-40, Foot Pursuit Ends With K-9 Capture

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — A 25-year-old Memphis man was arrested on Dec. 19 following a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 40 that ended with the suspects fleeing on foot into a wooded area, according to an incident report released by the Arkansas State Police.

Xavier C. Glaspie, 25, of Memphis, was taken into custody after a K-9 search led officers to a suspect hiding in a water-filled ditch near Highway 70 in Crittenden County.

According to the report, at about 12:33 a.m. Dec. 19, 2025, Trooper First Class Garrett Byrd was traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 near the 271-mile marker when he observed a blue passenger car approaching at a high rate of speed. Rear radar recorded the vehicle traveling 98 mph in a posted 75 mph zone.

Byrd attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated to triple-digit speeds, weaving past other vehicles. Byrd activated his siren and advised dispatch that he was in pursuit.

Near the 272-mile marker, Byrd performed a tactical vehicle intervention due to the vehicle’s reckless driving. The car left the roadway, came to rest in the grass near a tree line, and its airbags deployed.

As Byrd prepared to conduct a felony traffic stop, multiple occupants exited the vehicle and fled south into a wooded area, crossing a wire fence toward nearby fields and properties. Despite commands from the trooper, the suspects continued to flee on foot.

A perimeter was established, and multiple agencies responded, including the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy John Rolland arrived with a K-9 unit, and officers located clothing and footprints while searching nearby fields and tree lines.

The K-9 track eventually led officers near Highway 70, where a suspect was found lying in a water-filled ditch and taken into custody. The suspect initially identified himself as Kevon Shorter of Memphis, but investigators later determined the information was false.

The suspect was transported by Pafford EMS to Baptist-Crittenden Hospital in West Memphis for evaluation due to cold exposure. After being treated and released, he was taken to the Crittenden County Jail.

While processing the case, troopers noted the suspect’s appearance did not match the identity he provided. A fingerprint scan later positively identified him as Xavier C. Glaspie.

Investigators reported locating suspected drug-related items inside the vehicle, including a vape pen containing liquid resembling THC and packaging with marijuana residue. The vehicle involved was a blue 2018 Mercedes-Benz with a Tennessee license plate, registered to an individual in Austin, Texas.

Glaspie was arrested and charged with obstructing governmental operations, second-degree criminal impersonation, fleeing on foot causing property damage, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance under four ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, and second-degree criminal mischief involving less than $1,000 in damage.

Court records show Glaspie was later found guilty of obstructing governmental operations, fleeing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal mischief. He was sentenced to six months of probation and ordered to pay $1,700 in fines and court costs, along with a $50 monthly probation fee.

No additional suspects were located, and the search was discontinued.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
