Jonesboro Man Arrested After Juvenile Allegedly Fired Shots at Vehicle

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man was arrested after police say he encouraged a juvenile to open fire on a vehicle during an early-morning shooting.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Jonesboro Police Department, officers responded during the early morning hours of Jan. 4, 2026, to the 2200 block of Una Street in reference to a reported shooting.

Police said witnesses at the residence, including Avion Deshawn Jones and a juvenile suspect, were contacted at the scene while other officers located the victims during a traffic stop away from the area. The victims reported their vehicle had been struck by gunfire while leaving the area, and officers observed the driver bleeding from shattered glass.

Investigators said Jones provided a statement after being advised of his Miranda rights. According to the affidavit, Jones told police one of the victims was his ex-girlfriend and that they had been involved in ongoing arguments.

Police said Jones admitted that prior to the shooting, he told the juvenile suspect that if the victims returned, he was going to shoot them. Investigators said Jones later informed the juvenile suspect by phone that the victims were present and told him to “go ahead and shoot.”

According to police, the juvenile suspect then fired multiple rounds at the victims’ vehicle as it was driving away, striking the vehicle and injuring the driver.

Avion Deshawn Jones, 19, was arrested and charged with terroristic act conveyance, a Class B felony, and criminal attempt to contribute to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor.

Bond was set at $150,000 by Judge Barbara Halsey. Court records show Jones was ordered to wear an ankle monitor and issued a no-contact order prohibiting contact with the juvenile suspect and the victims. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 27.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
