Jonesboro Woman Arrested After House Fire Ruled Arson

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro woman was arrested after a residential fire was intentionally set following a crisis intervention call earlier the same day, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Jonesboro police officers responded Dec. 16, 2025, to the 3400 block of Quail Ridge in reference to a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) call. Officers said the victim, the mother of Candice Anne Murray, reported that Murray, who suffers from schizophrenia, was exhibiting concerning behavior.

Police made contact with Murray, who appeared coherent and refused assistance. Officers reported no immediate threat and cleared the scene.

A short time later, officers were dispatched back to the same address for a residential fire. The Jonesboro Fire Department arrived on scene and confirmed the residence was unoccupied.

According to the report, a neighbor identified as a witness told officers they saw Murray dump trash from a trash can, ignite the fire and then leave the scene in a vehicle.

The Jonesboro Fire Department and the Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an origin and cause investigation. Fire officials reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the front window of the residence. Investigators determined the fire originated in the southeast section of the south bedroom and found no competent ignition source in the area.

Evidence samples were collected and submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for analysis of ignitable liquids. Fire Marshal John White advised that the fire appeared to be intentionally set.

Officials estimated structural damage to the residence at between $75,000 and $100,000. The victim reported that all personal property inside the home was destroyed, estimating a loss of approximately $15,000.

Candice Anne Murray, 53, was arrested and charged with arson, a Class A felony.

On Monday, bail was set at $100,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order was issued, a GPS monitor was required, and a mental evaluation was ordered. Murray is due back in court Jan. 23.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
