FBI Confirms Court-Authorized Activity in Jonesboro; No Threat to Public

JONESBORO, Ark. — Federal authorities released a statement Tuesday confirming that the FBI conducted “court-authorized law enforcement activity” in Jonesboro related to an ongoing investigation involving Parks Director Danny Kapales.

In an email to NEA Report, FBI Public Affairs Officer Jessica Franklin said the agency could not provide additional information at this stage.

“The FBI is conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Currently, there is no threat to public safety,” Franklin said. “Since this is an ongoing federal investigation, we are not able to provide any additional details.”

Franklin added she would include NEA Report on the FBI’s distribution list for future updates.

Earlier Tuesday, the City of Jonesboro announced Kapales had been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Assistant Parks Director Jim Stearns was named acting director.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
