JONESBORO, Ark. — A Memphis man is facing a felony charge after Arkansas State Police say he led troopers and deputies on a high-speed pursuit that exceeded 100 miles per hour and ended in a crash on an interstate exit ramp.
Dillon C. Mitchell, 28, of Memphis, is charged with felony fleeing. Judge Tommy Fowler set Mitchell’s bond at $5,000 cash only, stating that Mitchell is a danger to the public.
According to a probable cause affidavit, a Lawrence County deputy was already in pursuit of a black Ford Mustang traveling southbound on U.S. 63 near Craighead County when an ASP corporal joined the attempt to stop the vehicle.
The trooper wrote that the Mustang approached at a high rate of speed, moved into the center turn lane to overtake traffic, and continued southbound on U.S. 63 while passing vehicles on the shoulder and in the turn lane. Speeds reportedly exceeded 100 miles per hour.
At the intersection of U.S. 63 and U.S. 63B, the Mustang allegedly ran a stoplight and nearly struck a truck that was turning onto the highway.
The affidavit states the driver then entered Interstate 555, continuing at over 100 mph. Near mile marker 47, Mitchell attempted to exit onto the Washington southbound ramp from the left lane, lost control, and struck the metal sign for the exit.
Mitchell was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
