JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect was arrested after police said he attacked a woman during a domestic disturbance, pulled her out of the shower, and later pointed a gun at her while threatening to kill her and himself.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Jonesboro Police Department responded on Nov. 11 to a residence for a domestic disturbance involving Joshua William Midgett, 26, of Oklahoma.
The alleged victim told officers she and Midgett had been in a relationship and that the two were at her home when the incident began. She said Midgett became angry after using her phone to find his and discovering a message from her ex-husband.
The victim reported that Midgett began yelling and screaming at her, then followed her into the bathroom and ripped down the shower curtain. While still yelling, Midgett allegedly got into the shower with her, then grabbed her and pulled her out, causing her to fall and suffer a deep cut on her foot.
Officers said Midgett then dragged the victim to the living room and continued yelling. While on top of her, Midgett allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her, threatening to kill both her and himself if she called the police. The victim said she later managed to take the gun and hide it in the bathroom.
Midgett then reportedly broke the victim’s phone before leaving the residence. When officers arrived, they found the phone broken and blood in the bathroom. The victim showed them where she had hidden the gun.
Police later located Midgett and took him into custody without incident.
Midgett faces charges of terroristic threatening and aggravated assault on a family or household member (both Class D felonies), along with domestic battery – third degree, first-degree interference with emergency communication, and first-degree criminal mischief.
During his court appearance, Judge David Boling set bail at $75,000 cash or surety, noting that it was Midgett’s second felony arrest and that he is from out of state.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
