JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro suspect was arrested after police said he assaulted a woman and stole her vehicle earlier this month.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Jonesboro Police Department, officers were contacted on October 18 by a woman who said she had been attacked and her vehicle stolen. The victim told officers she had been giving a friend, identified as Jason Glenn Arnold, 51, a ride to his home to retrieve his car keys when he began acting strangely.
When they arrived at Arnold’s residence, she said he became upset after she refused to pull into his driveway. Police said Arnold then punched the victim in the face and began choking her by grabbing her neck, causing her to have trouble breathing and foam at the mouth. The woman said she was able to escape after a witness approached, prompting Arnold to release her.
The victim told officers she ran from the scene while Arnold got into her vehicle and drove away. Police later located the vehicle at Arnold’s residence.
A bench warrant was issued for Arnold on October 24, and he was arrested on October 27, according to the affidavit. He faces charges of theft of a vehicle valued between $5,000 and $25,000, a Class C felony, and aggravated assault, a Class D felony. He was being held at the Craighead County Detention Center.
On Wednesday, Judge David Boling set bail at $50,000 cash or surety, noting the defendant has a parole hold that must be resolved before he can be released.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
