TRUMANN, Ark. – Heather Shrader, a lifelong Trumann resident and respected community advocate, has officially announced her candidacy for Mayor of Trumann in the 2026 election.
Best known for her leadership at Stepping Stone Sanctuary, a nonprofit serving the homeless population of Northeast Arkansas, Shrader is launching her campaign with a pledge to bring vision, transparency, accountability, and compassion to city government.
“I’ve spent years walking alongside those caught in a system that often overlooks, and even penalizes, citizens already under the crushing weight of economic hardship,” Shrader said during her announcement. “They’re single mothers and fathers, widows, veterans, small business owners, senior citizens, and youth in crisis—all struggling to have a voice in their own community. I’m running for mayor to be their voice, to serve this community in a way that empowers our citizens to boldly reclaim their city and secure the promising future of Trumann.”
As Executive Director of Stepping Stone Sanctuary, Shrader has secured critical funding, mobilized volunteers, launched community initiatives, and provided shelter and resources to hundreds of individuals and families in crisis throughout Northeast Arkansas.
The announcement comes amid rising local concerns about government accountability. Shrader has pledged to “shake up business as usual” and bring fresh leadership focused on service, collaboration, and community empowerment.
Shrader’s campaign will officially kick off with a public event later this fall, inviting community members to share their concerns, ideas, and hopes for the city.
“This race isn’t about me. It’s about all of us—and what kind of future we’re willing to fight for,” Shrader said.
The general election will take place on November 3, 2026.
