JONESBORO, Ark. — Local attorney Brian Miles has announced his candidacy for Circuit Judge Division 5. Miles has over 24 years of legal experience and has practiced in every court in the Judicial District. He currently serves as Chief Public Defender for the 2nd Judicial District, which includes Clay, Craighead, Greene, Poinsett, Crittenden, and Mississippi County. He currently manages a staff of 14 attorneys in Greene, Craighead, Clay, and Poinsett County. In this role, Miles has represented clients in Circuit Court, District Court, Juvenile Court, Mental Health Court, Drug Court, and Veterans Court, while supervising the provision of legal services to one of the largest service areas in the state.
“I believe that our judicial system must be led by those who seek to protect the rights of Arkansans and uphold the rule of law in accordance with our Constitution. Miles has dedicated his professional career to public service work. He began his legal career as a staff attorney for Legal Aid of Arkansas, Inc., where he provided legal services to low-income households in matters of Domestic Violence, Divorce/Custody, Consumer Rights, Criminal Expungements, and Guardianships. Miles was promoted to Deputy Director of Legal Aid of Arkansas, Inc., where he supervised attorneys and the provision of free legal services to Arkansans in 31 counties in North and East Arkansas. In addition to representing clients, he served as the Director of the Legal Aid of Arkansas AmeriCorps program and spent countless hours providing community education events throughout North and East Arkansas.
His vast legal experience also includes serving as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the 2nd Judicial District Drug Force. Miles handled the prosecution of felony drug cases and Civil Asset forfeitures in Clay, Greene, Poinsett, and Mississippi Counties. During this time, he also served as the Drug Court Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Craighead County and provided Fourth Amendment Search and Seizure training to law enforcement officers in the 2nd Judicial District.
Brian is a 1994 graduate of Paragould High School (formerly Ridgecrest High School). He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Arkansas State University in 1998, graduating Cum Laude, and earned his Juris Doctor from the U.A.L.R. William H. Bowen School of Law in 2001.
He lives in Jonesboro with his wife of 21 years, Ludivine Miles. Ludivine holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters and Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. Mrs. Miles taught French in several school districts in Northeast Arkansas including Nettleton, Paragould, and Jonesboro, and served as the Gifted and Talented Coordinator for the Blytheville School District. Mrs. Miles is currently a Course Design and Development Specialist for Virtual Arkansas. She is an active member of Junior Auxiliary of Jonesboro.
The Miles have two children, Timothy, a sophomore Instrumental Music Education Major at Arkansas State University, and Austin, a 9th grader at Macarthur Junior High.
Brian Miles is a member of the Arkansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Craighead County Bar Association, and the Arkansas Bar Association. During his career, he has had the honor of presenting numerous continuing legal education classes, served on numerous boards including work with the Legal Aid of Arkansas Beyond Opioid Project, and has been named Legal Aid Volunteer Attorney of the Year.
The Miles family is of the Southern Baptist faith. Brian, Ludivine, Timothy, and Austin enjoy spending time together with their dog Milo. They enjoy playing golf, outdoor activities, and cheering on the Arkansas State University Red Wolves Band and Athletic programs.
