BATESVILLE, Ark. — Lyon College has announced the launch of a new microcredentials program designed to help individuals acquire targeted leadership and workplace skills through short, self-paced learning modules.
The program is the latest initiative in Lyon College’s commitment to supporting lifelong learning and workforce development in Arkansas and beyond.
“Our new microcredentials program reflects Lyon College’s ongoing dedication to academic innovation and community engagement,” said Dr. Kurt Grafton, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost. “These affordable credentials allow individuals to build real-world competencies that employers value, while providing the flexibility and accessibility modern learners need.”
Offered through the new Lyon College Skills Library, the microcredentials program includes a wide variety of non-credit, self-paced modules. The first three learning tracks focus on Leadership Development, with courses organized into three main categories: Developing Self to Lead, Understanding Others to Lead and Communicating with Others to Lead.
Participants can choose from modules such as “Resilience in the Face of Setbacks,” “Inclusive Decision-Making” and “Having Difficult Conversations.” Each completed module results in a digital badge that can be added to resumes, LinkedIn profiles and digital portfolios, as well as a Lyon College branded certificate upon completion of a full learning track.
“These microcredentials are a direct response to the needs we’re hearing from employers in the state and region,” said Nikki Yonts, associate dean of curriculum development and assessment. “They want workers who are adaptable, empathetic and skilled in communication and leadership. This program is built around helping people develop those exact abilities.”
Each module was developed by experienced Lyon College faculty with expertise in leadership, education and professional development. The courses are interactive and user-friendly, providing practical strategies that participants can apply immediately in their personal and professional lives.
In alignment with Lyon College’s mission of experiential learning, the microcredentials emphasize the development of qualified artifacts, including tangible demonstrations of knowledge and skill, that lead to portable, stackable credentials.
Lyon College plans to expand its microcredentials offerings in the coming months to align with evolving needs in business, industry and government. These future modules will be developed in close consultation with workforce leaders and subject matter experts to ensure they reflect current trends, skill gaps and emerging competencies.
“The college remains committed to providing flexible, relevant and high-impact learning experiences that support career advancement and economic development across Arkansas and beyond,” Dr. Grafton said.
Registration is now open, and modules can be started at any time. Customized corporate packages and discounts for multiple credentials are available.
