CAVE CITY, Ark. — A traffic stop in Cave City resulted in the seizure of 1,279 grams of suspected methamphetamine and the arrest of two individuals who are each being held on $250,000 bond, according to the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 8, law enforcement received information that a black Ford Mustang with front-end and windshield damage was traveling through the Cave City area with illegal narcotics inside. The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office and Third Judicial Drug Task Force shared the tip with the Cave City Police Department, and Officer Dalton Hooker began searching for the vehicle.
At approximately 8:03 p.m., Hooker saw the Mustang with visible damage leaving the First Community Bank parking lot and conducted a traffic stop on North Main Street. The vehicle, bearing an Arkansas license plate, was identified as a black 2008 Ford Mustang registered to Mccabe West, 47, of Hardy.
Lt. Trent Milligan of the Cave City Police Department and his K-9 partner “Bandit” responded to the scene to assist. The K-9 gave a positive alert, and a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 1,279 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
West and his passenger, Melissa Blaskiewicz, 44, of Mammoth Spring, were both taken into custody. Both suspects were transported to the Sharp County Detention Center. Bail for each suspect was set at $250,000.
The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office said the arrests highlight the value of inter-agency cooperation. Officials also recognized the Cave City Police Department and K-9 Bandit for their assistance.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
