Trumann Police Department Places Officer on Administrative Leave Following Online Video

TRUMANN, Ark. — A police officer has been placed on leave after a video posted to the NEA Report News Tips group raised questions about a 2023 incident.

The Trumann Police Department has placed Officer Will Tate on administrative leave following the circulation of a video online that appears to show a Response to Resistance incident.

According to Chief Jonathan Redman’s statement, the incident in the video did not occur during Tate’s time with the Trumann Police Department. However, the department is conducting an internal review to determine whether the matter has any bearing on his current role.

“The Trumann Police Department holds its officers to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity—both on and off duty,” Redman said in the release. “We take all matters involving officer conduct seriously, regardless of when or where they occur.”

The department said no further information will be released at this time, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The video was shared in the NEA Report News Tips group on Facebook. According to the post, the video involves a 2023 incident in which a 70-year-old woman approached a traffic stop to pick up her grandchildren. The post claims that after a verbal exchange with Officer Will Tate, he slapped a phone from her hand, used force to restrain her against a vehicle, and denied her medical attention despite her requests. She was reportedly released without charges and later went to the hospital.
