Maynard Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting

MAYNARD, Ark. — A suspect was arrested for murder after the shooting death of a man Thursday in Randolph County.

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) requested assistance from the Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) following a homicide in the 2900 block of Pitman Road in Maynard.

RCSO received a 911 call from the victim, Christopher Lee Borreson, 47, of Maynard, who stated that he had been shot. While still on the call, Borreson succumbed to his gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner, according to the sheriff.

Randolph County deputies arrested Joshua Kane Smith, 30, also of Maynard, in connection with Borreson’s death. Smith was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he is facing charges of First-Degree Murder.

The deceased will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of death.

Sheriff Kevin Bell said on social media that no other arrests are expected and there is no danger to the public related to this incident.

The sheriff also added that the case was still under investigation by the sheriff’s office, with the ASP assisting.
