Paragould Man Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Girlfriend

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man was arrested Saturday after police said he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend during a domestic disturbance.

Officers were dispatched May 23 to the 300 block of West Hunt Street where they found the alleged victim with visible injuries, including swelling and bruising on her wrist, and knots on her head, according to the probable cause affidavit. The woman told police her boyfriend, identified as John Finney, caused the injuries.

The victim, who police later learned is pregnant with Finney’s child, was transported to a hospital for treatment.

On May 24, officers located Finney and brought him to the police department for questioning. According to a probable cause affidavit, Finney made self-incriminating statements during a Miranda-warned interview.

Finney, 39, faces a charge of third-degree domestic battery, a Class D felony under Arkansas law. Jail records show a possession charge, as well. Bail was set at $10,000.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
