Craighead County Responders Rescue Motorists from Floodwaters

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark. — Deputies from Craighead County, aided by Bono Fire personnel, executed two water rescues Saturday in response to severe flooding.

The first incident unfolded on County Road 328, where responders utilized an MRAP vehicle to navigate hazardous high waters and extract a stranded motorist to safety on dry land.

“We deployed our MRAP to safely traverse the high waters, ultimately bringing the motorist to dry land,” Assistant Chief Jason Allen reported.

Shortly afterward, emergency services were dispatched to County Road 988, where they collaborated with Lake City Fire Department to rescue a resident trapped inside his home due to rising floodwaters. The operation concluded successfully with the safe evacuation of the resident.

Allen emphasized the dangers posed by flooded roadways, urging the public, “Please DO NOT attempt to navigate high waters. IT IS strongly discouraged!!!!!!!”

Remember: TURN AROUND – DON’T DROWN.
