PARAGOULD, Ark. — Many workers in Greene County learned they would be losing their jobs on Tuesday after an auto parts manufacturer announced they were shutting down operations in Paragould.
DRiV Inc. / Tenneco Inc. confirmed their decision to end operations in Paragould in a statement released to NEA Report on Jan. 14, 2025.
The company has made the difficult decision to close our manufacturing operations in Paragould, Arkansas.
This is not a decision we made lightly, as this affects people we highly value. We will provide transition assistance for all affected employees.
The company needs to realign its manufacturing footprint to respond to changing market conditions. Adjusting the size of our operations to match the current market demand, as well as what is anticipated in the future, is necessary to strengthen our long-term sustainability.
Employees were first told at a meeting at the B.C. Lloyd Building at the Greene County Fairgrounds Tuesday morning. At least a portion of the meeting was recorded and posted to social media, with the audience reacting to the bad news as it was announced.
Employees at the meeting were also given a letter detailing the path forward. The letter was provided to NEA Report:
According to MonroeHeavyDuty.com, the Tenneco manufacturing plant in Paragould opened in 1970 and covers over 450,000 square feet with warehousing and strut assembly manufacturing nearby. It is the second-largest plant in the Tenneco portfolio. Each year, millions of shocks are produced at the Paragould facility.
The facility employed 1,100 workers, an article in 2022 by the Paragould Chamber of Commerce said.
