JONESBORO, Ark. — A man faces charges, including a potential Class Y felony, on allegations that he physically and sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend last month in Jonesboro.
The probable cause affidavit says on Dec. 5, 2024, JPD officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence. Officers met with the alleged victim who claimed her ex-boyfriend had assaulted her.
The woman told police she heard a knock at her door and believed it to be a friend. When she opened the door, the defendant entered the residence. The two went upstairs as the alleged victim prepared to go out for the evening. During this time, the defendant allegedly took her phone and accused her of communicating with other men.
When the woman attempted to retrieve her phone, the defendant reportedly grabbed her by the throat and slammed her onto a bed, making it difficult for her to breathe. The physical altercation allegedly continued throughout the house before the defendant left with the woman’s phone.
The affidavit states the alleged victim chased the defendant outside, where another physical altercation occurred. Both eventually returned inside, where the defendant allegedly backed the woman onto a couch and made possessive comments about her body. From there, court documents allege that the defendant raped her as she told him to stop “several times.”

The affidavit says the defendant later left the residence with the woman’s phone. When she pursued him outside, he allegedly shoved her into a ditch. She then ran to a neighbor’s house for help. The defendant eventually returned the phone and left the scene.
Police noted that the woman had bruises and scratches from the altercations and observed damage to the residence, including a broken laundry room door and a damaged stair handrail.
On Jan. 2, 2025, Judge David Boling signed a bench warrant for the defendant’s arrest.
Carlton Sampon Davis, 35, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 8. He appeared in court later in the afternoon for a probable cause hearing, represented by attorney Zach Morrison. He faces charges including rape, a Class Y felony; aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony; domestic battering – third degree, a Class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief – second degree, a Class B misdemeanor.
Following an agreement between Morrison and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Charlene Henry, Davis’s bail was set at $10,000 cash or surety, with a no-contact order issued.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
