Jonesboro Man Accused of Kidnapping Says He Was Framed

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man faces allegations he assaulted and held a woman against her will over the weekend in Jonesboro. Still, at his probable cause hearing on Wednesday, he claimed he was being framed.

Officers with the Jonesboro Police Department responded on October 12 to a residence in response to a subject with a weapon, according to the probable cause affidavit. A female victim had texted her neighbor telling her to call the police. The neighbor told dispatchers that the victim was inside the residence with a male who had a weapon and was threatening to shoot her because she did not come home when he told her to.

Authorities arrived and knocked at the door. The female victim asked who was there. Officers identified themselves. They reportedly could hear the victim say that she had to open the door before saying “don’t” and “stop.” She stopped communicating with officers.

A male, later identified as Adrian Johnson, began speaking with officers. The affidavit said he told them he needed to put on clothes. A short time later, sounds of an altercation between Johnson and the victim could be heard, with the victim crying inside. Because of this, officers forced entry into the residence.

Inside, officers found Johnson lying on the floor. They attempted to handcuff him but he reportedly began pulling away from police. Officers were able to get him into custody.

Police then spoke to the victim, who stated that she and Johnson had been engaged in an intimate relationship. She said the two had been at the residence, and throughout the night, Johnson had become increasingly violent, leading her to ask the neighbor to call the police. The victim said at multiple points, Johnson made threats to kill her and pointed a gun at her. The victim also told police Johnson would not allow her to answer the door and began getting physical with her when police heard her crying.

The victim gave consent for officers to search the residence for the firearm, with the victim pointing out the handgun that Johnson had used against her. Police noted Johnson is a convicted felony barred from having possession of a gun.

Adrian Terrell Johnson, 27, was arrested on charges including:

  • First-degree kidnapping/false imprisonment, a Class C felony
  • Aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony
  • Possession of a firearm by a certain person, a Class D felony
  • First-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony
  • Obstructing governmental operations, a Class C misdemeanor

Johnson was in court for his probable cause hearing on Wednesday. During the hearing, Johnson claimed he was being framed. Judge David Boling set bail at $150,000 cash or surety with a GPS ankle monitor as a condition of his bond.

Johnson’s next scheduled court appearance in this case is 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 17.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
