JONESBORO, Ark. — One person was dead following a shooting incident early Monday in Jonesboro.
At about 4:16 a.m. on Monday, October 7, the Jonesboro Police Department received a call from dispatch about a window being shot out of a residence at the 5500 block of Mariposa Grove Drive. Responding officers found an open door to a neighboring residence.
Once the residence was cleared, an adult male was found dead inside. 29-year-old Reginald Hannah was identified as the deceased. The coroner was called to the scene and detectives took over the investigation.
Around 11:40 a.m., JPD’s Sally Smith told NEA Report that the incident was a “domestic situation” and that the authorities were not looking for a suspect.
An involved party, a female, was mentioned by police but it wasn’t clear if she would face charges, as the case was still under investigation.
It appeared to potentially be a case of self-defense, based on police updates. An update Friday, October 11, from JPD also indicated this.
On October 7, 2024, JPD officers responded to the 5500 block of Mariposa Grove after a homeowner reported a bullet had pierced through the wall of their bedroom. When officers arrived, they discovered an open door to a home on the same side of the street. Inside, they found 29-year-old Reginald Hannah with an apparent gunshot wound. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene by the Coroner. Four children were also located inside and taken to safety.
During the response to the call, officers also located a distraught female nearby on Kathleen and quickly detained her for questioning. Subsequent investigation has revealed this shooting event was the result of an ongoing domestic disturbance that was endangering the welfare of the children in the home. The adult female was released from custody, and the case has been turned over to the prosecutor’s office for further review.
This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
