Craighead County Resident Faces Life Imprisonment After Allegations of Child Rape and Grooming

JONESBORO, Ark. — A sex offender from rural Craighead County is facing life in prison on numerous allegations of rape, in addition to other charges.

Adam Williams, 60, was in court before Judge David Boling on Wednesday, August 7.  He faces five charges of rape and two charges of sexually grooming a child. A $5 million cash/surety bond requirement was set for his release, with the judge also issuing no contact orders for the victim and for any juvenile.

The probable cause affidavit says on February 8, 2024, a child’s guardian reported a sexual assault on a 9-year-old boy to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office. He had reported the incident in 2021 but said nothing came of the report. The guardian began noticing ‘odd sexual behaviors’ in the 9-year-old, prompting concern. The child stated he was allegedly raped by Williams on multiple occasions. At the time, the child lived with another family member. Williams was the boyfriend of that family member.

As the guardian came to the sheriff’s office to report the allegation, he brought with him a 17-year-old female who also lived in the same residence during the same period. She said she had never told anyone before, but Williams allegedly raped her, too. She told investigators that Williams would make all the children in the home watch pornography and then make them perform what they had watched. The incidents allegedly occurred when she was eight to 14 years old. During one of the multiple occasions, she described that Williams sexually assaulted her while pointing a shotgun at her head.

On March 15, a search warrant was signed by Judge Scott Ellington on the house located in rural Craighead County. The search warrant was for evidence connected to sexual assaults on juveniles. During their interview with the Crimes Against Children Division, the juveniles described items that were in the suspect’s house. During the search warrant, some of the items were located in locations that they were described, the affidavit said.

The charges of rape are Class Y Felonies punishable by up 10 to 40 years or life in prison. The charges for sexually grooming a child are Class D Felonies punishable by up to six years in prison.

Williams’ next court date is scheduled at 8:30 AM on September 27, 2024.

Williams was already incarcerated on a probation violation and failure to register charge from June 11, which is still an open case. He had pleaded guilty on May 24 to possession of firearms by certain persons and failure to register charges. He received a 48 month suspended imposition of sentence (SIS) for those offenses.

Online court records show his initial sex offense conviction was a first-degree sexual abuse charge from September 18, 2006. He was sentenced to 60 months probation on that charge. However, his probation was revoked in 2011. For the revocation, he was sentenced to five years SIS.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

  1. Classic failure of the court system. He was already on probation and violated it. But instead of incarcerating him they gave him SIS. It’s all about the money. As long as your on probation or parole you have to pay fees. If they incarcerate you they don’t get their money. This could have been prevented if the court system would not have failed.
