JONESBORO, Ark. – The nurse who was on duty during Brock Austin Tyner’s in custody death on May 4 has responded to the report first published on May 29 by NEA Report.
In her response, Delaney Hall said she had been fired by the Craighead County Detention Center following the tragic events surrounding Brock’s death. Hall said she had only been on the job for about two weeks and had one single night of training where intake protocol was never discussed.
Hall expressed her prayers for Brock and his family. She also mentioned several problems she felt exists at the jail. Below is her full response:
“I started working with TurnKey, which is the medical provider for most of the jails of Arkansas, at the beginning of the year, but I didn’t start at Craighead until around 2 weeks prior to Brock’s death. I have worked in a therapy setting since becoming a nurse, never in a jail setting. It’s more of a fast-pasted setting than what I had been used to recently. The company provided no additional training on the intake protocols at all. I actually had 1 single night of training, but the intake protocol was never discussed. And I also was the only nurse for over 400 inmates. I was unaware that’s how the jails operated and the people that have worked in the facilities for years, were no help at all during the time of the situation, just closed off and hard to communicate with. It was a high stress situation and I felt in that moment that everyone just wanted to point fingers at me, the nurse that had worked there for 2 weeks. I understand that someone truly has to take accountability for the situation. I since have been fired from the facility, thankfully. It’s so easy to blame me, I understand that. But this is a system-wide fault. From the time he was picked up to the time he left in the ambulance. I do have a passion for nursing, and understand that this article and the comments make me seem so cruel, but I have prayed over the family and Brock. I know this is not going to make the situation any better but I truly have taken all of the comments to heart.
“I also would like to add to the comments saying that I should be fired and worse, I did. And I since have been trying to figure out how to feed and provide for my children, while also fighting the emotions that came along with the situation. Working at the jail had impacted my life in such a negative way. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I started there, hoping to provide a change in people’s lives who are going through the worst times of their lives, which is close to my heart, as I lost my father during my teenage years to a drug overdose. However, the jail truly does not want to rehabilitate these people. They just want to punish them. They are treated so poorly in the jail and the facility itself is filthy. And when a person is going through things, rather it be mental health or drug addiction, the jail just treats them like they are nothing because they are “regulars.” There are a few really great people that work there that want to make a difference, but unfortunately, it’s not the correct place for changes to be made. I pray that this situation changes the dynamic of the jail system and if I have to lose everything for that change to be made, I would take that. These are real STRUGGLING people with people who love them.”

You are a trained nurse above all the petty excuses. You knowingly caused the death of another person standing there arms crossed. You are praying that nothing comes of this but your flat guilty of negligent homicide. You knew he needed help and out right refused. You are selfish and unworthy of any type of mercy. Brock wasn’t showed mercy as he sat dying in a restraint chair. His mother is mourning the tremendous lose and since being fired you want others to have sympathy for you and your children.
I can tell u from personal experience that the entire craighead county jail is like a huge cattle farm. The officers Don’t give two craps about any of them being rehabilitated or help o n them in any way. The nurses are the only ones who ever helped me during my stay. So I think it is wrong to blame only this woman. More people need to lose they’re job over this and some need prison time for the negligence that caused this loss of life!!!
Ever been inside a jail to stay the night? I’m guessing no, or you’d understand what the detention staff (jailers) is really like. They deserve to be punished every single day for the way they tell people they’re faking just to get attention. They paint EVERYONE TO BE A MURDERER.
So she was poorly trained! As a heart to help people where was your human instincts that someone need help! On the other hand why did the ambulance not come but police instead? They were first on the scene and should of known their portacal. There’s not just one to blame but more.
She never once took accountability for her action. She placed blame on everyone else. Common sense should have kicked in and been like OK clearly something is wrong let’s get him to the hospital. I feel like the cop that arrested him instead of getting him help should also be fired.
The officers who responded to the call should have sent him to the hospital as it was obvious that he needed medical treatment. Most of our local officers are more concerned with taking everyone to jail. Some of them even plant stuff on people just so they can. I don’t know if they have a quota to meet or what but it’s no wonder why our jails are overpopulated. And I remember as a teenager overhearing a friend’s dad talking about beating the s**t out of inmates and laughing about it, all because they were intoxicated. Some of these officers and jailers are just bullies on power trips and can be cruel to the point of breaking the very laws they are paid to uphold. The justice system really needs an overhaul.
Everything you say is questionable, at best.
Yes I believe the officer that cancelled ems is 💯at fault and the nurse would be an accomplice. I’m not Dr but from the video of the young man waiting for EMS shows he was in need of medical help and was asking for it. The officer was fired a few days ago for assaulting a inmate. He needs to be held responsible for this young man’s death.
