POCAHONTAS, Ark. – The City of Pocahontas was struck by tragedy over the weekend preceding Christmas with the passing of Mayor Keith Sutton.

Mayor Sutton passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, confirmed a Facebook post by the City of Pocahontas. He had been in declining health for some time, several told NEA Report. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and their two sons, Bradley and Parker.

Keith Futrell, also serving on the city council as ward 1, position 2, is anticipated to take on the immediate duties and responsibilities of the mayoral office, council member Rob Olvey told NEA Report.

Many mourned the tragic passing by posting memories on Mayor Sutton’s Facebook profile.

“We are sad and our hearts hurt for you and your family,” wrote Sonya Matthews Farmer. “Always a smile and a wave from your yard as we passed by heading home. We thought so much of Keith Sutton and we will miss him.”

Visitation to honor Mayor Sutton will take place on from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, December 28, at the McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas. A rosary will follow in the chapel. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, December 29 at the Randolph County Development Center on the Black River Technical College Campus.
