West Memphis, Ark. – Police arrested a suspect after a woman was murdered this weekend in West Memphis.

At 2:34 AM Sunday morning, officers responded to the BP gas station located at the corner of West Broadway and South Avalon in reference to a person being shot, police said in a release posted to social media. Officers located a black female in the passenger’s seat of a gray Nissan Sentra suffering from a single gunshot wound. EMS was called to the scene. She did not survive. The deceased has been identified as Christian Hammock of West Memphis.

Detectives established the crime scene and began their investigation. It was determined that the shooting took place in the 300-block of West Jefferson.

Detectives were able to positively identify one of the suspects involved in this homicide investigation as Caleb Moten, 18, of West Memphis Arkansas. It wasn’t clear if more were involved.

As a result of an exhaustive investigation, we obtained felony warrants for Capital Murder, Terroristic Act, and two counts of Aggravated Assault. Later this evening, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of West Jefferson which would account for the extensive police presence in that area around 6:00 PM.

At approximately 8:00 PM, members of the West Memphis Police Department’s Special Response Team executed a “vehicle assault” in the area of South Avalon and West Tyler Avenue, taking Moten into custody without incident. Police say Moten was in possession of a Glock firearm equipped with a Glock Switch at the time of his arrest. Such a device turns the weapon into an automatic.
