Stolen lawnmower found with drone

JONESBORO, Ark. – A hovering helper brought a stolen item back to its rightful owner Tuesday in Jonesboro.

At 7:32 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, Officer Benjamin Witherspoon with Jonesboro Police Department was dispatched to the 700-block of Elizabeth Lane where a Craftsman EZ Walk mower had been stolen from a woman. She said it had been stolen sometime between noon July 9 and Wednesday.

As the victim was speaking to the police officer, her son was flying his drone in the area to try to find the mower. He found success, too, locating the mower in the back of a neighbor’s yard.

The two produced a detailed description of the mower and even had a picture showing a unique bit of damage to the handlebar. As the officer arrived at the residence where the mower was located with the drone, he said the mower was in an open backyard and in obvious plain view.

The victim arrived at the officer’s request and identified the mower as hers. The mower was turned over to the victim due to her providing proof of ownership.

The suspect was believed to be a 12-14 year old male. The owner declined to prosecute him.
