Clardy, Drendel Receive WBC Founders Awards

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Two students were just honored in a big way at Williams Baptist College.

Alexus Clardy and Jonathan Drendel have been awarded the 2017 Williams Baptist College Founders Awards.  Clardy is from Conway, Ark., and Drendel is from North Aurora, Ill.  WBC President Dr. Tom Jones presented the awards during the college’s annual graduates luncheon on Friday, May 12.

Founders Award winners are selected from each graduating class at Williams.  Recipients are chosen by a vote of the faculty and administration as outstanding representatives of the college and its ideals.  Clardy and Drendel graduated Saturday during WBC’s commencement ceremony.

Clardy, who was a double-major in biology and psychology, is the daughter of Terry and Penny Clardy.

“Alexus is a true model of what we like to have in our student athletes,” said former Williams head women’s basketball coach Carol Halford.  “She is intelligent, a self-starter and a great leader.  She provided a super role-model for young athletes as they began their college careers.”

Drendel earned a degree in Christian ministries and is the son of Kevin and Beth Drendel.

Jonathan is a person of integrity.  He does what he says he is going to do.  Though quiet, he is able to lead while keeping a sense of collegiality, depth of substance, and comfort to the people following him,” said Dr. Ken Gore, chair of the department of Christian ministries at Williams.

WBC is a four-year, liberal arts college at Walnut Ridge, Ark.
