911 audio depicts panic after downtown shooting

JONESBORO, Ark. – Police have released the 911 audio in the horrific party shooting in downtown Jonesboro from early Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to the chaotic scene at 311-B South Main St. about 12:23 Sunday morning. Officers arrived and found and began rendering aid to a number of gunshot victims at The Basement – a party venue – where a party was taking place. 

Chauncey Jovon Thomas, 19, of Jonesboro, and Kalius Jaciel Lane, 20, also of Jonesboro, were both wanted for first degree murder and six counts of first degree battery in the early Sunday downtown shooting which claimed the life of Monterio Barnes, 18, of Jonesboro.

Thomas turned himself into police after a warrant was issued for his arrest Sunday, JPD announced in a release Sunday afternoon.

Lane was still wanted and is considered armed and dangerous.

On Monday, Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin expressed his sympathies and regret over the incident.

“An event like this is just devastating, obviously for the loved ones of those involved, but it rocks the community as a whole,” Perrin said. “It saddens me that in Jonesboro we are not immune to the problems that plague our society at large.”

Perrin took a moment to praise first responders and police who responded to the bloody scene and worked diligently throughout the evening to make sense of the senseless.

“I can only say that I am heartened by the immediate and professional response of our first responders, and our thoughts and prayers go out to those personally affected by this horrible act of violence,” Perrin said.
