14-year-old arrested for gun threat at Valley View

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Jonesboro Police Department is still investigating an allegation of threats of violence made by a student or students at Valley View Junior High School.

After conducting a number of interviews Wednesday, officers arrested a 14-year-old eighth-grade student who has been remanded to the custody of the Craighead County Juvenile Department.

Officers determined that the student threatened to bring a handgun to the school and to use it to harm specific individuals. No handgun was brought to the school and no one was harmed.

There is currently no danger to the students or staff at Valley View Junior High School. Extra officers have been assigned to patrol Valley View schools and the police department will maintain a presence at the school until the ongoing investigation is concluded and this case has been resolved.
