Argument about cheating turns into vicious assault, report says

JONESBORO, Ark. – An argument between a couple of two years turned into a physical altercation early Thursday morning, according to the police report made with Jonesboro Police Department.

At 5:13 a.m. Thursday morning, JPD Officer Jason Bissett was sent to the Gladiolus apartments by the mother of the female victim, 20. The mother had been trying to get police there since 4:30 a.m. but authorities had received the wrong apartment number.

When police arrived, they made contact with the mother, who confronted her daughter’s boyfriend when the daughter sent messages about the suspect, Dashawn Cartez Pruitt, 21, of Jonesboro, hurting her. The daughter sent her mom a message saying to “bring the cops,” because of the fear she was in.

Once she spoke to Officer Bissett, it is easy to understand why.

“She stated that her boyfriend of two years and father of two kids had struck her multiple times,” Bissett reported. “She stated an argument started at approximately 1 a.m. while in the bedroom. She claimed to have questioned Mr. Pruitt about talking to other women on his phone (cheating).”

The argument escalated into a physical altercation, according to her report.

“She stated that Mr. Pruitt grabbed a pillow and covered her face and head while press down on top of her while she was lying on the bed,” Bissett was told. “She stated that he threatened to kill her if she didn’t stop accusing him of wrongdoing. She stated that she had difficulty breathing and was on the verge of unconsciousness.”

The suspect let her get up and walk into the living room, according to her report – but the vicious assault did not stop. It intensified.

“She claimed that while in the living room he confronted her again and began striking her on the face and arms,” Bissett said. “I could see visible red marks on the victim’s, face, arms and neck area which is consistent with someone being struck several times. I also notice several dark black and blue bruises on victims stomach and forearms.”

The girl told the officer the bruises were from another fight with Pruitt.

She also told them she was moving out.

When the officer asked him what happened, he stated he got into an argument with his girlfriend about him talking to someone on his phone. The officer then asked him if it turned physical.

“I pushed her on the couch and that is all I am going to say,” Pruitt told the officer, according to the report.

Pruitt was arrested for felony aggravated assault on a family or household member and misdemeanor third degree domestic battery charges.

He was taken to Craighead County Detention Center, where he remains as of this report.

  1. No worries, she will go back to him and this will all be repeated in a few months if not sooner.
