WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Candy, treats (or tricks), and games will all be part of a fun Halloween event in Walnut Ridge set for tonight.
From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight (Monday, Oct. 31) on Abbey Road in Walnut Ridge, an event for kids age two to 10 will be held, called Trunk or Treat.
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Mayor Charles Snapp said the success of the Beatles at the Ridge creates the possibility with the vendors to return.
“It’s been a super, super good time,” Snapp said. “In fact, last year, the people who made it all the way through ran out of candy. We had between 600 and 800 people come by to get candy. People from Lawrence County, Randolph County, Greene, Craighead and even Jackson County.”
The event is hoped to become an annual one by Snapp. He said booths must be reserved, due to space, but last year, around 20 reserved booth space and made the evening all-the-better for participants. Snapp encouraged participants this year to dress in their favorite costumes.
“It’s an evening for the kids but it’s also an evening for all the businesses in town,” Snapp said. “There’s a real good chance they’ll stop into a restaurant, stop into Walmart or Tractor Supply. If we can generate business for the community and provide good, clean entertainment for the family, how can you go wrong?”
A local favorite, The Dark Side coffee shop, often makes habits of showing kid-friendly scary movies on the wall across Abbey Road with their projector, Snapp said.
The event is presented by Downtown Walnut Ridge, Inc., the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee and the City of Walnut Ridge.
