WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – It has been a busy month in Lawrence County and hopes are for business to resume as normal at the October Lawrence County Quroum Court meeting.
Following the sad passing of Dale Freeman, a new Lawrence County Judge was named for the remainder of 2016 – Ann Pulliam. She will preside over the October meeting for the very first time, as a number of new business items will be discussed.
First the court is to set meeting times for budget committees to help prepare for the 2017 operating budget. The 2017 budget is also a focus of business on the agenda.
“We will be having a special meetings on the budget and any of the court members who want to come will be present,” Pulliam told NEA Report. “There will be some discussion but we will have other meetings on it.”
Time will also be devoted to discussing the remodeling of the Lawrence County courthouse (seen in the featured photo). At recent meetings, some employees complained of leaks in the aging structure.
A lease on a road grater will be discussed, where the county would turn one in and get another one, Pulliam said.
There will also be more heard about a Rails to Trails grant, which may mean more completion for the project.
The court meets in the Lawrence County Courthouse at 5:30 p.m. Monday night, Oct. 10.
